I have more answers!
HOW DOES THE INTERVIEW PROCESS WORK?
Once you contact me, we will schedule a time and a place to meet.
I will then ask you to review the terms of services and Code of ethics to make sure we are both on the same page. I will also send you an interview and model release before we meet/talk, as an agreement for your participation to the project*.
If at any point you have questions or worries, please do not hesitate to write: I am here for you. FPP is meant to be an empowering and positive experience. Let’s make sure we achieve that together.
On the day of the interview, I will record our conversation or I’ll take notes if we speak over zoom or one the phone. You do not have to prepare anything in advance: the interview will happen organically. We might cry together, but we’ll definitely laugh a lot—and I’ll for sure cuss once or twice :)
If we meet in person, I’ll take all the precautionary measure to keep everyone safe during COVID. I’ll start by taking pictures of you, with or without your kid(s). You have the choice between portraiture, documentary, or a little bit of both! Take a look at my photography portfolio if you’d like.
If we’re doing things virtually, you will have the option to send a family picture (or many!) of yourself and your kiddos. There’s also the possibility to publish the interview anonymously: the goal is to empower you by sharing your story and showing your face.
On average, I spend one hour for the interview and 20 minutes for the photo session. That being said, there is no clock, and I’ll be happy to extend our time together—within limits. I’m trying to honor my boundaries as much as I can by paying attention to everyone’s vulnerability, level of energy, and ability to care… which includes my own. Thank you for acknowledging and respecting them.
After we talk, I will transcribe the interview, edit the pictures, and voilà! Your story is put online!
In the spirit of free documentary and journalism, I do not share the transcript of the interview before featuring the story, but I will happily read it to you over the phone, should you wish to make sure the facts of your story are accurate.
I DIDN'T GO THROUGH POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION. CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?
Yes, absolutely, yes! One of the goals of this project is to redefine the word "postpartum" back to its original glory: from latin post/partum, which means "after childbirth" and "to bring forth." Being postpartum does not equal depression.
MY KIDS ARE OLDER. CAN I STILL CONTACT YOU?
Yes, please! We each process life events at a different pace. My door (and inbox) are always open!
I ADOPTED. CAN I TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE DAY I BROUGHT HIM/HER/ALL OF THEM (!!) HOME?
Of course. There are many ways to experience the postpartum period and I welcome stories from all walks of life.
I LOST A CHILD (MISCARRIED/STILLBORN) AND I WANT TO TALK ABOUT MY POSTPARTUM PERIOD. CAN WE MEET?
If you are ready to talk about it, I would be honored to tell your story. It’s important to know that Faces of Postpartum also showcases successful pregnancies/birth stories. If you have recently experienced a loss, other websites, such as facesofloss.com, exclusively bring awareness to the issue.
Also: many, many hugs.
I am worried about my privacy. How can you protect my identity if I agree to share my story?
I follow a strict code of ethics when it comes to protecting my participants. Your story, personal information and identity are safe with me. If you want to share them with the world but aren’t ready to add your face or name to them, I am here for it.
*Please note that I am not a physician or a mental health specialist. I cannot prescribe any medicine. I hold a doctorate in Literary Studies and I have a passion for storytelling, documentary, and perinatal care.
